October 2010 Meeting


Vienna Historical Society Meeting – October 26, 2010 – 7:00 p.m.

Agenda and discussions:

  1. Treasurer Report:
    • $220.00 – Cemetery Walk Tickets
    • $136.00 – Merchandise Sales
    • $15.00 – Donations
    • $140.00 – Membership
    • $222.00 – Paid to A Graphic Imprint for Merchandise
  2. 2009 Membership – Michelle Garman mailing out approximately 10 letters to explain what happened with money/checks.
  3. Cemetery Walk – Discussed the following:
    • Sell merchandise at entrance and exit
    • Determine how often tours would start
    • 2011 Walk – Civil War Theme
    • Date for 2011
    • Holes in ground at cemetery:  line best path between sites
    • State “not handicap accessible” in publications to promote event
    • Cut weeds back in some areas
    • Gate needs repaired
    • Don’t let a group join a tour already in progress
    • Scripts that are longer than 15 minutes should be split up
    • Need better signage
    • Denote who is a VHS member by nametags, pins, shirts, etc.
    • Have map of walk to pass out
    • Have chairs in a waiting area to sit between tours
    • Set refreshments up closer to tour entrance
    • Have handouts with information to each participant
    • Holy Rosary asked that we not put flyers on cars of those attending their services.  Few at Vienna Presbyterian Church did not appreciate this being done also – was inappropriate.
    • Vicki Anzur will send letters of appreciate to Music Boosters, Girl Scouts, Mr. Miller and students that participated from Mathews, Vienna Trustees, Copper Penny Lodge and Fire Chief Rich Brannon.
    • Was approved by consensus to reimburse Vienna Township for the lock that was cut off at the cemetery.
  4. Future Fundraiser – Discussed the following:
    • Mugs:  Redo the Mathews mug to a line drawing and put Vienna School on it.  Make mugs with Mathews on it that shows the addition with year.  Do a series of mugs with a new design introduced every 6 months.
    • Wine Tasting – Possibly to be held at Vienna Fish & Game or Four Season Club House.  Donna Jean Schieffer said her daughter works for a winery and could maybe come up and handle this.  Michelle Garman said she had been a bartender and could contribute to this.  She would get information.
  5. Phil Pegg is working on Hull House historical marker and has received information from Mark Finamore
  6. Phil Pegg suggested that the November Meeting be a program of audience participation similar to the tornado discussion. 
  7. Michelle Garman would like to put something together to thank Lauren Worona for her help in the Cemetery Walk.
  8. Elections will be held at the November 30, 2010 meeting
  9. December – No meeting will be held.
