February 2010 Meeting

On February 23 the Society welcomed Mr. Chris Klingemier, who offered a fascinating, illustrated lecture on Vienna's early nineteenth-century clockmaking industry.  Armed also with an example of wooden clock works, Mr. Klingemier offered to a packed house of members and visitors a varied presentation:  the specific distinguishing characteristics of clocks made in Trumbull County and how these characteristics help to date and attribute these artifacts to their makers; the history of the clock factories in Vienna; and humorous points about the relations between clockmakers as found in legal depositions.  Who knew there was a gang called the "Howland Bullies"?  Thanks to Mr. Klingemier for taking the time to offer his expertise.
